While enjoying some choice eats on Ditmars Blvd last weekend, I got to chatting with one of the business owners on the strip and the subject of Emeril’s apparent restaurant arrival in Astoria came up. As suspected, this was a faulty rumor—so no, he is not opening up a place in the old Buon Appetit Deli space (36-12 Ditmars Blvd).

My source told me the story the owner told about their getting call after call after call asking “When is Emeril coming?!?!?!?!?!” Apparently it has been rather tedious having to deal with the repetition. Anyway, my source said the question was asked point-blank: “What is going in this space?” The answer? It’s going to be a bar, though we’ve not sure what kind of bar.

McCann’s is nearby, so a sports bar is not probably going to be the style (but you never know). That section of Ditmars—between 31st and Steinway Streets—doesn’t have much of a bar presence, especially now that The Blvd (AKA Stini Yiamas) closed down months ago. Sure, there are bars in restaurants, and alcohol available at most nearby eateries (think MP Taverna, sake in all the sushi joints, and beer/wine at the pizzerias) but not many dedicated bars in this part of Ditmars.

It will be interesting to see what the place is like when it opens.
