We’ve been curious about what is coming to the old Teddy’s Florist + Grocery/Deli space—yes, that’s right, the two spaces have been combined into one. I spotted the space the other day when a worker had left the door open. Anyway, we’ve heard a couple of RUMORS—yes, these are absolutely unconfirmed but one has a particular chance of being legit.

The first rumor has to do with 5 Guys Burgers—we heard they are coming to that space. Now, we’ve heard this rumor before, but it seems less likely, and that has to do with the commercial appliances that will be installed in the space. Not to mention the wildly successful Bareburger is just up the street.

The second rumor is that Artichoke Basille’s Pizza is going to occupy that space. This is an intriguing idea! No doubt they could handle what is probably high rent by the management company, too, and people love their pizza. We first heard this rumor from an anonymous tipster who heard it from a local businessperson in the Ditmars area.

Two things also make me think it could be them—this Grub Street article from 2010 which talks about their expansion, “The team says it’s currently scouting locations uptown, as well as in Williamsburg and Astoria, for two or three more New York Artichokes.”

The second thing is that there will be a pizza oven installed in this space—according to city records, it will be a BAKERS PRIDE BREAD OVEN, MODEL NO: Y-600BL. It’s known that Artichoke uses this oven, too (though, to be fair, it’s likely a lot of pizzerias use this oven).

So, we shall see. We’ve reached out to Artichoke but have not gotten an answer back from them as to whether or not this is a RUMOR or TRUTH. We’ll continue to pester them and pass on any info to you that we get.

In support of the Artichoke theory, I peeked into the construction space today, and saw the same type of retro tin ceiling had been installed that I’ve seen at another Artichoke location – a promising sign!

That would be *fantastic* if an Artichoke opened up there. Just looking at their locations now on their website, I didn’t realize there’s a location in LaGuardia – good to keep in mind!
