This weekend is going to the dogs… seriously! There are two dog-related events going on and we love this canine coincidence. Both involve nonprofit organizations doing very good things in this world.

On Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. is Paws & Pints LIC, a charity event happening at LIC Landing, hosted by the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy and COFFEED. The event itself is free, but all proceeds from the raffle and food goes toward Patriot Paws Service Dogs. Enjoy music, a dog agility course, giveaways, and the aformentioned raffle. $5 beers, too!

For those unfamiliar with the nonprofit, Patriot Paws Service Dogs, their mission is “to train and provide service dogs of the highest quality at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities in order to help restore their physical and emotional independence.” A good cause for sure.

Paws & Pints, Saturday June 14, 5 to 8 p.m., LIC Landing at Hunters Point South Park, 52-10 Center Blvd, Long Island City, NY. Facebook invite

On Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. is Paws & Pints, a dog adoption and charity event held by Friends with Four Paws and hosted at Singlecut Brewery. Proceeds from the limited-release beer brewed for Friends with Four Paws—a brown ale at $5 a glass—will go to support their work (we also hear that tap room manager Amanda from Singlecut is attempting a non-alcoholic dog-friendly beer as well, made from malted barley and vegetables, without hops or yeast). Adoption fees, too, help fund the efforts of Friends with Four Paws.

They will have puppies to play with and adopt, including a litter of labs, Alvin the Chihuaha, and Romy and Michele (chiweenie pups). Learn about dog fostering, a very important element of dog caretaking. There will also be a professional dog photographer for canine visitors, and a dog masseuse.

Friends with Four Paws is a nonprofit organization that provides mobile adoption locations and providing foster care for dogs and cats. They are based in Oklahoma City, but have facilitated adoptions all over the east coast.

Paws & Pints, Sunday June 15, 1 to 5 p.m., Singlecut Brewery, 19-33 37th St., Astoria, Facebook invite

And now I see it says 1pm on the poster! Bottom line – glad it’s all clear now! Good luck at the event!
