This month we’re keeping the Best of Astoria momentum going with the We Heart Astoria team’s picks. Last week Judith chimed in with her Astoria selections, and this week I’m up! Without further ado, some of my Best of Astoria selections for 2013:

Non_Fiction_Astoria_Bookshop

Best New Arrival: Astoria Bookshop

Behold! We have a bookstore (ok, well technically two!) Last year Astoria was blessed with Lexi Beach’s vision for a neighborhood book hub, and Astoria is a better place for it. A great general shop for booklovers of all ages, this community hub is just getting started. I for one can’t wait to see how they grow. 31-29 31st Street, Astoria

Pink Nori_Sushi Chef

Best Sushi: Pink Nori

When the Lockwood crew orders Seamless, these days our #1 go-to is Pink Nori. Their inventive rolls and large selections keeps everyone happy. I personally can’t get enough of their flavored edamame, especially the black pepper chili.  36-06 30th Avenue, Astoria.

We_Heart_Astoria_Mars_Party

Best Bar: Mar’s

Sure, sure, Mar’s isn’t technically just a bar. But, when I want a classic cocktail in a great environment, Mar’s is my go to place. I always stick to the basics here (Mar’s Sidecar, Old Fashioned, Manhattan) but their house drinks are just as good. 34-21 34th Avenue, Astoria.

Best Outdoor Dining: Leng Thai

If you’ve never been to the yard at Leng Thai, you’re in for a treat. In addition to their unique family recipe based menu, Leng boasts on of the best backyards on Broadway, if not the neighborhood. The tranquil. bamboo lined space will help transport you from city life, if not for only an hour.

Favorite Bakery: Astor Bake Shop

Perhaps it’s the proximity to my apartment, or maybe it’s the variety of fresh & thoughtful baked goods, either way, Astor Bake Shop is the only bakery for me. Highlights include the almond croissants, garden salads with their house made lentil burger, and of course cupcakes of every variety. 12-23 Astoria Blvd. Astoria.
