A while back I mentioned that the Fast Break—which was a corner store/bodega type place (it actually reminded me a little bit of the AM/PM Minimart chain in California)—on Ditmars was papered up after being gutted over the winter. Looks like that space will have a new tenant, Yogurt La Crepe. As you can tell from the name, they’ll be offering frozen yogurt and crepes.

The photo above was from a couple weeks ago, and yesterday afternoon I peered in and saw that they’ve really made headway on the renovations.

This business looks like it originated in Tarrytown, NY, and they’ve expanded to Astoria, bringing their sweet and savory crepes and more froyo to the neighborhood. They’ll be offering a rotating selection of frozen yogurt flavors, everything from Dutch Chocolate to NY Cheesecake to Blueberry Burst. Looks like they carry some seasonal flavors like Peppermint Stick and Pumpkin Fall, too.

The savory crepes are mostly meaty, except for a Spring Mix crepe and a kid’s cheese crepe—and I have to say, it would be a good thing if they were able to create more vegetarian crepe options here in Astoria. Savory crepes are also served with a side salad. Their sweet crepes offer classic ingredients like strawberries, Nutella, and they’ll offet the always lovely lemon, sugar, and butter crepe, but on the other hand they offer a trendier S’Mores crepe, too. They also offer gluten-free crepes.

As for beverages, it’s nice to see they’ll offer Manhattan Special, a coffee drink, as well as Pellegrinos. Espresso drinks will also be on the menu. I noticed on their Instagram page that the Tarrytown location offers bubble tea, so perhaps they’ll offer it here in Astoria, too.

You can see more of their menu, here.

Astoria has plenty of froyo but not that much in the way of crepes (Cafe Triskell is really the best in the neighborhood, serving Breton-style crepes), so it will be interesting to see their take on the crepe. Yogurt La Crepe expects to open in May (originally spring 2014). We’ll definitely stop by when it’s open and let you know what we think of it!
