Pye Boat Noodle – Thai Noodle and Street Food Restaurant Coming to Astoria

UPDATE: Looks like Pye Boat Noodle is almost ready to open. According to their Facebook page, they only have a few finishing touches left, so we’ll be waiting with bated breath until we can get our hands on some yummy-looking noodles. Take a look at this preview from their kitchen.

Back in November we noticed that changes were coming to the old D&F Deli space on Broadway, the name Pye Boat Noodle, Inc attached to the address’s DOB record. Turns out that’s exactly what is opening there, a new casual Thai restaurant called Pye Boat Noodle. So what does “pye boat” mean? Here is the explanation from the restaurant:

PYE in Thai means “paddles”—the essential tools used to guide small wooden boat carrying noodle soup along the canal of Thailand.

It sounds like they’ll be offering boat noodle soup (spicy broth, noodles, meat) and also “thai street hawkers” which sounds like street food to me. Here is a video about boat noodles, which sound absolutely delicious.

Looks like they anticipate opening this month or next, and we also noticed that they’ve applied for a liquor license. Their Facebook page also indicates outdoor seating—Google maps makes it look like there is outdoor space in the back, so we’ll see. While Astoria is full of Thai restaurants, mostly serving American-style Thai food, there aren’t really any that specialize so specifically in noodle soups and street food. We’re definitely curious and will be checking it out when it opens.

I came across it last week and decided to give it a try. I had the tofu pri krik khring (i’m sure that’s not spelled right) and it was DELICIOUS! I’m looking forward to going back and trying some more items on the menu. Especially their vegan noodle soup.
