Thanks for a WHA tipster, we’ve learned that the old CANZ (a City) space will be the new home to a new spot called Front Toward Enemy. And it looks like they may open as soon as next month. They have a bare-bones website (with lots of “coming soon” in it) and have set up their social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) as well as their Yelp profile.

The Yelp profile gives us the most detail. Their hours indicate weeknight evening service and the potential for brunch on the weekend (Mon-Thu 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Fri 5 p.m. to 4 a.m.; Sat and Sun 12 p.m. to 4 a.m.). They’ll have free wifi, a full bar, and will “specialize in unique mixology, great food and live music.” They’ve also posted a dozen photos of the food, and here are a handful:

Looks like a dish of poultry (or fish?)

Salad with eggs.

Perhaps a crab cake or some kind atop greens and sauce.

Dessert, perhaps a toffee cake and whipped cream.

You might be wondering what “front toward enemy” refers to, and after a little research we learned that it has to do with anti-personnel mine. The image used in the restaurant’s logo is a diagram of the 1956 McLeod patent of the Claymore mine. The mine displays the words “FRONT TOWARD ENEMY” on one side. You can read more about this mine here.

We look forward to learning more about Front Toward Enemy over the coming weeks.

Article forgets to explain how everyone at Canz Astoria was fired right around the holidays as they quickly closed up shop to open up this place.

What a horrible name choice. Land mines still effect many regions in the world decades after the conflicts they were placed during are over. Hope if they are planning to keep this terrible name they will choose to donate some of their profits to an organization such as MAG. http://www.magamerica.org/

I got a chuckle out of the name. It’s a rock club! It’s gotta be kinda tough sounding but with a sense of humor. Works for me. Also, the salad to me looks like an adapted ceasar salad (are those white anchovies?)

Thanks for the info! The sign went up yesterday, and I was curious about the meaning behind the name. I still find it odd that they completely covered the full-length windows that used to open up at CANZ.
