Happy Friday, everyone! I thought I’d tell you about some of the things I’ve really enjoyed eating lately here in Astoria.

This is enough for at least two people

Pesto Flatbread at 5 Napkin. Last night I had the chance to try some of the new menu items at 5 Napkin Burger, and I fell in love with this pesto flatbread. It has everything I love – pesto, tomato, mozzarella cheese, all on tasty bread. 5 Napkin Burger, 35-1 36th Street, Astoria, NY 11106, 718.433.2727

If you like chewy candies and ginger, this is for you

Mango Flavored Chimes Ginger Chews at Fresh Start. I picked these up on a whim at Fresh Start Market, and am in love with them. They are chewy ginger candies with a hint of mango. Seriously delicious. Fresh Start Market, 29-13 23rd Avenue, Astoria, NY 11105, 718.204.7868

Served with caramelized pumpkin and an arugula and pomegranate seed salad

Lamb Lollies at The Thirsty Koala. I ate these at a The Thirsty Koala and after the first bite of medium cooked lamb with a nice crust, I was hooked. This is my favorite thing (at least so far) that I’ve tasted there. The Thirsty Koala, 35-12 Ditmars Boulevard, Astoria, New York 11105, 718.626.5430

It goes great with lime, too

Crabbie’s at Mosaic. Another discovery at The Thirsty Koala, and I also discovered that Mosaic, a very nice beer and wine lounge spot, carries it, too. I’ve heard that Dutch Kills uses it for their Moscow Mule as well. It’s a robust ginger beer – alcoholic, but not with a very high percentage – that is addictive. I basically want to drink it everywhere. It should taste amazing with bourbon, too. Mosaic Cafe & Lounge, 25-19 24th Avenue, Astoria, NY 11102, 718.728.0708

Love the dots of hot sauce, too

Hamachi Jalepeño at Kitaku. This was brought to my attention by our own Lucy, who wrote about it in her post, Lucy Eats Alone: Lucy and Sandy. It’s six slices of fish topped with a thin slice of jalapeño, surrounded by a “chef’s special sauce.” It’s sort of sweet and tangy. Very, very tasty. Kitaku, 29-21 23rd Avenue, Astoria, NY 11105, 718.606.8508
