It’s finally the weekend, and I for one cannot wait for some seriously quality R&R and low key brunch in Astoria this weekend. What are you all doing? Leave us a comment or send us a tweet– we’d love to hear all about your idea of a good time.
What do live music and locally grown veggies have to do with each other?
The Queens Kickshaw, of course! Friday night take in some of their always awesome live music. Up this week, Scone Kalb Bernard Trio. Curious? Here’s a bit more to whet your musical appetites:
Leading the Scone Kalb Bernard Trio is Eric Kalb, NYC-based drummer.
Eric Kalb is a devotee of R&B drumming with an improvisational aesthetic colored by bursts of rock aggression. Best known for his high energy live performances he has toured North America, Europe, Australia and Japan with such notables as Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, John Scofield, Dr. Lonnie Smith, The Greyboy Allstars and Deep Banana Blackout to name a few.
And don’t forget to stop in Sunday morning to pick up some locally grown treats from Hellgate Farms, located right here in Astoria. Last week’s bounty included Thai chili peppers and local honey. I can’t wait to see what this Sunday brings.
Welcome to the comedy capital of New York.
Last night I had the good fortune to attend another lovely QNSalon at The Creek & The Cave in LIC. In addition to some good old fashioned networking with amazing QNS ladies, I got to learn about the robust comedy programs at this local gem. Saturday night, why not check out ‘Shoot The Shite‘? Come early for a tasty burrito, and a few margaritas and then stay for the comedy show. Shoot The Shite is free! (WHA Tip: I heard from a local comedy enthusiast last night that LIC will soon be home to a third comedy club! How cool is that?)
What do you get when you cross a hopelessly straight starving actor with a dynamite red sequined dress?
The Newton Road Backyard Film Festival is at it again this Sunday, this time with Tootsie! Take in this Dustin Hoffman classic. The festivities start around 8 and go until 11pm. Find out more info on their Facebook event page.
Get your ohm on.
Why not end your weekend with some dedicated mediation time? Our friends at Anthea Yoga have great classes, including a Sunday meditation practice at 6:15. Center your mind and spirit and go into Monday with a clearer mind. Classes are by donation. (Don’t worry, if yoga is more your thing, they have a great line up of classes for that, too!)
