Weekend? What weekend? For many, yesterday’s holiday-in-the-middle-of-the-week means a 5 day weekend (whoo hoo!), for others of us it was just a confusing mid-week break. Either way, there’s plenty of cool things to enjoy in Astoria & LIC this weekend.

Soak up some free art.

Friday night head to The Noguchi Museum (9-01 33rd. road at Vernon) and get free admission!  Visitors will be able to explore the permanent collection galleries, and enjoy a cash bar with wine and beer in the Museum’s celebrated outdoor sculpture garden.  The evening will also include short films, curated in collaboration with the Architecture and Design Film Festival, and an extended conversation with a Museum educator about a single work in the collection. The evening’s events run from 5:30-8pm.

Work on your fitness:

Good news adults, it’s lap swim time at Astoria Park Pool! More details:

Early Bird hours: 7:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m., Night Owl hours: 7:00 p.m.-Dusk

All participants must complete a registration form. A season admission card will be issued to online applicants on the first day they participate in the program and to poolside applicants immediately after completing the form. All participants must check their admission card at the pool entrance each day. If the card is lost or stolen a replacement shall be issued. All swimmers must have a card to gain admission to the program. There is no charge.

For more discussion about lap swim, head over to where they tackle the ever-present swim cap or no swim cap debate. (And, where they tackle the honest truth about just how clean, or not clean, that pool really is…)

Get your giggle on:

Why not soak up some AC at The Laughing Devil (4738 Vernon Blvd LIC) in LIC this weekend? They have a great line up of comics, and shows are only $20 each. Friday & Saturday they have two seatings (8, 10:30pm) so pick a time that works best for you.

Where’s Waldo?

Don’t forget, everyone’s favorite children’s book character, Waldo is on the loose in Astoria and LIC! Find 8 or more Waldos in July and you’ll get a cool badge and an invite to the super cool wrap party at SITE. Find 16 or more Waldos and you’ll get a tote bag filled with prizes and the chance to win one of many grand prizes. Find the complete list of all 20 places you can find Waldo on their Facebook page.

Dance, dance, dance!

In the mood for art + dancing? Don’t miss PS1’s Warm Up Party (22-25 Jackson Ave. at the intersection of 46th Ave.) this Saturday. The line up:

Todd Terry / X-Mix Productions / New York, NY
Light Asylum / Mexican Summer / Brooklyn, NY
Nguzunguzu / Fade to Mind / Hippos in Tanks / Los Angeles, CA
