Although we’re glad to see that temperatures have definitely simmered down this week, this weekend may bring along some rain.  Not to worry though, as there’s plenty of things going on inside or out – from fun happy hour specials to music events, movies, exercise and more!

To celebrate the end of the work week, and of course the very spooky Friday the 13th, start out at your favorite local watering hole (McCann’s, Irish Rover, Mad Donkey, Astoria Brewhouse) and end up late night at Mojave.  Featuring a new late night happy hour, you’ll have the chance to drink up their delicious $5 frozen margaritas, mojitos, sangritas, beer and more.  Come in anytime between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. to receive this special.  There’s plenty of $5 food options too, so come hungry!  Mojave (22-36 31st Street, Astoria.  718.545.4100)

Swing over to our favorite coffee, grilled cheese and craft beer haven, The Queens Kickshaw for their Friday night live music series, which starts at 9:o0 p.m.  This week, they feature  The Brothers Moving, a sassy group of four brothers from Denmark, who bring an eclectic music medley of blues, funk, folk and rock ‘n roll.  Also happening at TQK this Sunday is their very first Hellgate farm pop-up stand of the season, featuring local produce such as tomatoes, figs, leafy greens, potatoes and more.  Come early to get the best stuff, starting at 9 a.m. this Sunday all the way through noon.  The Queens Kickshaw (40-17 Broadway, Astoria.  718.777.0913)

For more farmhouse fresh goodness, visit the Socrates Sculpture Park Greenmarket this Saturday from 8 a.m. – 4p.m.  You’ll not only have the chance to stock-up on local and fresh fruits and veggies, but also on meat, poultry, eggs…even bread.  Even though it can be a hike, it’s totally worth it, especially since you can stick around and hang out at the park for their Saturday morning exercise classes such as Yoga and Capoeira.  Socrates Sculpture Park  (Vernon Blvd & Broadway, LIC.  718.956.1819)

If you’re looking to shake that booty this weekend and get some great exercise too, we hope you check out Simply Fit Astoria, now in its new bigger location, for their exercise classes.  Personally taking their salsa class before, I can’t say enough great things about my experience, which really taught me a lot about dance and gave me a fab work-out to boot.  This weekend, you can take anything from Zumba Sentao, Piloxing, Ab Fusion, Zumba Toning and more.  Don’t know what any of these funky names mean? Check out their helpful descriptions and also the class schedule.  Simply Fit Astoria (37-16 Astoria, Blvd, Astoria.  347.639.0489).

Hoping that the weather holds up this Saturday, The Newtown Road Backyard Film Festival will be showcasing a classic throwback, Charade.  Featuring the glamorous Carey Grant and Audrey Hepburn, it’s personally one of my oldie favorites, exhibiting romance at its best.  The film starts at 7:30 p.m. and since this is a popular one, space is going fast, so RSVP on Facebook if you’re interested.   The screening is free and you can BYO food and drink.
