Happy Monday everyone! It’s our distinct pleasure to introduce a new and awesome editorial franchise, which comes in the most non-traditional of formats.  Haiku!  And the gentleman who brings it to us is none other than Astoria’s own short form poet, Astoria Haiku.

Some of you may know him by his alias on Twitter, where he stays super active, engaging the Astoria community in various clever haikus about the nabe and its diverse happs.  And he’ll do just that for us too.  Here’s a bit more about our newest contributor and of course his first of many haikus.  Enjoy!

Who is Astoria Haiku?
Born and raised in Brooklyn, this adventurous poet broke away from his 2 syllable borough and moved into our awesome 4 syllable, Astoria in 2001.   He’s never looked back since.

Always been into writing nonfiction, he finds haiku the perfect medium for Twitter, allowing for creativity while telling his neighbors something they didn’t know about Astoria. Sometimes it’s the news (local/national), the weather, or some observation he hopes people will find interesting.
Preferring to keep his anonymity, his true identity will remain a secret.  Without further ado, here’s his first haiku for We Heart Astoria:

My new Monday gig/
Cause you heart Astoria/
And they heart haiku

Brilliant! WHA and AstoriaHaiku are a great combo.
I never met him, but have a major soft spot for him. He’s witty, informative and the most generous retweeter, ever.
DEFINITELY another reason to heart Astoria. Congrats to both parties!
