Astoria Park up the Great LawnMemorial Day is almost upon us, which means summer is, too! Get ready for warm temps, possible thunderstorms (because what is summer without a thunderstorm?), live music, great flicks, and a crawfish boil, all here in Astoria.

Friday night, stop by The Queens Kickshaw for more live music. Snehasish Mozumder plays the double-necked mandolin, and uses to to play jazz-infused Indian ragas. This great musician is a veteran of world music festivals and appeared with the Ravi Shankar Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the recording of the DVD Tribute to George Harrison. Saturday is a walk in the park… literally! At 11am on Saturday morning, meet at the corner of 19th Street and Ditmars for the start of a walking tour of Astoria Park and Pool. On the tour, led by the Greater Astoria Historical Society, with the help of members of Green Shores and the Astoria Park Alliance, you’ll learn a lot about the history of the area, the nearby mansions (that keep getting destroyed for new housing), the Hell Gate itself, the two bridges that share the park, Astoria Pool, and the natural elements of the park, including the butterfly garden, trees, and wildlife. Come in comfortable, sturdy shoes and bring water with you. Call for reservations 718-278-0700 $15 ($10 for GAHS, Astoria Park Alliance and Greenshore members). The tour lasts 3 hours.

The Beer Garden (Bohemian Hall) presents its annual Czech & Slovak Festival all weekend. Stop by and enjoy authentic Czech and Slovak food and drink, music, and dance. There’s even going to be a raffle! It starts at noon on Saturday and Sunday and admission is free. Bohemian Hall Beer Garden, 29-19 24th Avenue  New York, NY 11102; 718.274.4925

On Sunday at 1pm, head to Hell Gate Social for their annual Memorial Day Crawfish Boil. They’ll be flying in over 80 pounds (!) of crawfish from Louisiana and cooking them along with crab, corn, and potatoes. They recommend you come early, as there’s a real chance the mudbugs will run out. After they run out of food, they’ll be showing a movie outside in the back. Should be a great time! And for those of you that can’t wait for Prometheus to open, get busy with their predecessors, Alien and Aliens. On Sunday, from 6pm to midnight, the friendly folks at Raven’s Head be screening these two movies, which really are classics. After this, you’ll totally be prepped for Prometheus (that I can’t wait to see!!). Raven’s Head Public House, 38-04 Broadway  Astoria, NY 11103; 718.777.7565
