Hi everyone – we just wanted to post a few instructions and rules for tomorrow’s inaugural Astoria Blog Carnival! We’re very excited to try this out and hopefully be a great event resource for both bloggers and readers. As we mentioned last week, a blog carnival is:
“…a way to compile many bloggers’ posts about a certain topic in one place.” It’s a great way for readers to learn more about a particular topic, discover new voices in the blogging world, and it’s good for bloggers to get their work out there in a central place (as well as creating some nice traffic for them).
Here’s how you’ll participate:
You’ll use the Mr. Linky widget that will be embedded in the blog carnival post. All you have to do is insert the name of your post and the URL of it in the appropriate fields, and the widget will post that info to the carnival page. An example of this widget and a completed blog carnival event can be found here.
There are a few rules/instructions for the carnival:
- It’s very important that you put a link back to the blog carnival page in your post. This way your readers can find their way back to the page that will be full of links to Astoria-centric content, plus it’s good carnival etiquette. An example of this would be: “This post is participating in the Astoria Blog Carnival, hosted by We Heart Astoria.” “Astoria Blog Carnival” could be the linked text.
- On the widget, in the “Your name” field, please insert the title of your post (not your actual person name!).
- On the widget, in the “Your URL” field, please link to the specific post, not your blog’s homepage.
- Please limit contributions to one post per person. Your post must be about Astoria, Queens; of course, LIC is acceptable, by extension.
- Be sure to leave a comment on the carnival page! It is nice to hear from you, plus it gives you a chance to explain your post a bit.
- If you don’t have a blog, but are active on Facebook, Twitter, or Google+, join in by leaving an Astoria-centric comment!
