in Astoria Arrivals, Boutiques, Shopping

Friday night I had the pleasure of meeting up with Leni from Queens Mamas to attend the grand opening of Creator’s Co-op on 23rd Avenue. I’ve long wondered when Astoria would get its very own bustling shopping area like so many other neighborhoods have (think: Austin Street in Forest Hills, Seventh Avenue in Park Slope, Broadway in SoHo) but I think one might finally be here. On what use to be a sleepy block just south of Ditmars and North of our beloved Beer Garden, a wonderful assortment of businesses have popped up.

Here’s just a taste of what was happening last Friday night on this emerging avenue in Astoria.

Creator’s Co-op opened, showcasing handmade goods and local talent:

Kids were getting warmed up for a Mommy And Me Zumba class:

The new skate shop, Belief, was open late, local kids were playing video games, and the merchandise was captivating:

Ornella Trattoria was hopping and we decided to end the evening with a bottle of Pinot Noir, a Bianca Salad, and their always amazing homemade Chestnut Pasta:

Here are the independently owned business that are making 23rd Avenue quite the amazing destination in Astoria:

Belief Skate Shop (2920 23rd Ave.) Skate shop and clothing boutique with an emphasis on great finds for men.

Fresh Start (2913 23rd Ave.) A family owned natural food store with a great prepared food/juice bar selection.

Ornella Trattoria (2917 23rd Ave.) Some of the best homemade pastas and Italian dishes in Astoria.

KrisTees (2401 23rd Ave.) A curated collection of easy to wear, stylish and modern women’s clothes, jewelry, and accessories.

Creator’s Co-op (2616 23rd Ave.) The newest addition to 23rd Avenue, this charming shop features a variety of handmade goods.

Rejuvenate Day Spa (2617 23rd Ave.) The perfect place for holistic, organic, and all natural spa treatments.

Another new establishment on 23rd Avenue is Kidz Yoga (http://www.kidzyoga.net), just opened November 1 at 27-14 23rd Avenue, a block from Creators’ Co-Op and Rejuvenate Face and Body. I happened by the other day and met founder and director Tina Mavrelis Charalambous.

They have classes for adults as well as kids.
