Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a rain free, beautiful weekend. Either way here’s some great ways to start October with a bang!

Wunderbar in Astoria

Kick off the weekend with a little Octoberfest celebration. Friday night marks the 2nd anniversary of Wunderbar (37-10 11th St. Astoria). They’ll be offering an authentic German food buffet and lots of discounts on German beers all night long. The festivities kick off at 5pm.  Keep the party going over at Sunswick (3502 35th Street), they also have some great Octoberfest offerings. Enjoy the best harvest & pumpkin beers the season has to offer, as well as a full German-inspired food menu through October 17th. If beer isn’t your thing, don’t forget about Astoria Wine’s (34-12 Broadway) weekly Friday night wine tastings.

Saturday, check out some of the arts events happening around Astoria. The Frank Sinatra School Of The Arts (35-12 35th Avenue) is having their 2nd annual Art Auction.  Bid on some artwork or just check out their impressive digs. After the auction, head over to Hell Gate Social (12-21 Astoria Boulevard) for Astoria Music & Arts Presents: Suspension of Disbelief - Art with Live Music. Check out some amazing fine art and live music, all by local Astorians! Drink specials are available from 8-10pm, there’s no cover for the event.

Word on the street is that Five Napkin Burger (35-01 36th Street) is offering great happy hour deals, even on the weekends. Head over to their new Astoria location to check out the great offer, everyday from 4-7pm. Burgers not your thing? WHA has spied a new selection of cupcakes at Bakeway (2521 Broadway, also 30th Ave and 29th St.) on Broadway.  There’s a red velvet cupcake there with my name on it.
