Today is a little cooler, yay! I love hot weather but this summer has been trying. Plus the A/C is out of control in my office – I have my space heater running as I write this. What the heck?!?!?
Well, anyway, tonight is Green Drinks! Have a great time imbibing your favorite chilly beverage, and meet like-minded individuals while you’re at it. This month’s installation of this fun event is sponsored by Recycle-A-Bicycle and Film Biz Recycling, both based in LIC. According to the mailer:
Refurbished bicycles, recycled jewelry, and repurposed movie props will be on hand for sale. All bicycles were prepared by this year’s Summer Youth Employment Program participants and will be for sale at affordable prices. All proceeds directly support RAB’s green job training program. Film Biz Recycling will be setting up a groovy lounge at LIC Bar showcasing their diverted castaways.
LIC Bar is at 45-58 Vernon Blvd, the event lasts from 6-9pm (the community bike sale starts at 5pm). You can RSVP on Facebook, if you like.
This weekend consider checking out Yoga Agora (33-02 Broadway), especially if you’ve been curious about yoga but have been scared away by prices. Yoga Agora works on a “suggested donation” model – $5 is the suggested donation, plus you can rent a mat for $1 and water is also $1. Their philosophy:
In ancient Greece, the Agora was a gathering place for both politics and trade. Our studio emphasizes a similar gathering, in the sense of shared experiences and the exchange of ideas. Community has much to add to our quality of life and we believe that an accessible and open yoga studio can bring such added joy to any neighborhood.
Classes happen throughout the day, so no doubt you’ll be able to find something that matches your schedule.
Don’t forget the new cupcakery in town! According the comments, both the cupcakes and the banana pudding at Cream Bakery are great. I do love banana pudding, so I may make my way over there. I love cupcakes, too! This place is definitely on my radar.
This weekend hails the final day of the Astoria Water Walk. Like the last couple of weekends, Shore Blvd will be closed to motorized traffic and open to human-scaled activities. The theme for this weekend is music! There will also be a clothing swap and I’ve heard there will be ping-pong, too. The swap will take place from 1-4pm. Musically, there will be rock and acoustic music – the rock stage is toward the RFK Bridge and the acoustic stage will be nearer the Hellgate Bridge. See the Facebook event page for more info about the lineup.

Hi,
Just wanted to make a correction to the Yoga Agora section. The donation based classes are the 2pms, all other classes are $5 each.
Thanks!
