Here at WHA we love new. New cafes, shops, and bars makes us weak in the knees. Astoria Arrivals is our new home of all things up-and-coming in Astoria.
It seems that Steinway is really cornering the market on all things sweet! Welcome Cream Bakery (31-78 Steinway St, (718) 545-3800), the latest contender in the ever growing NYC cupcake market. While early Yelp! reviews don’t seem promising, I’m personally looking forward to a sweet treat from them very soon.
Has anyone tried Cream Bakery? We’d love to hear all about it! And, don’t forget, if you know of a great new Astoria Arrival we should cover, contact us at weheartastoria@gmail.com. We’ll be sure to lavish you with praise and give you full credit for the scoop.

don’t get too excited…cupcakes are not that great, but do try the banana pudding…
My husband and I purchased a dozen cupcakes and they were kind enough to throw in an additional 2 free…..My kids and their friends loved them…My husband and I thought they were excellent…I tried the red velvet and my husband had the bannana cake……The place is beautiful and the staff is very friendly…Glad to have a place like this in my neighborhood and I will be using them in the future for all parties or just for our sweet tooth cravings….
Stopped in on a Thursday after lunch for coffee and a dessert. A very nice, bright space, simply decorated with nice art work on the walls and lots of intriguing shapes and colors in the display cases. Service was friendly and professional, the coffee strong (as I like it) and the Seven Layer Bear (a sort of homemade energy bar) delicious. An added incentive is that the owners are local.
They also offer wi-fi and have some nice, broad tables convenient for setting up your computer.
All in all, a great impression. I’ll be sure to go back to try other pastries.
Thank goodness for Cream bakery! Having once lived around the corner from Magnolia in the West Village, Cream bakery has become not only its substitute but it surpasses it in its wide range of delicious cakes, cupcakes, pies, cookies, etc. Everything is always so moist and the service is very friendly. I am especially grateful for their late hours–perfect for that late night dessert craving!
I bought a cake from cream bakery today, vanilla with chocolate frosting . It was horrible. It was very dry and hard to slice. Must have been sitting there for sometime. Will never step foot in this place again. Not worth visiting.
I honestly can’t fathom the idea of great reviews about this bakery. I gave this bakery at least 8 tries, if not more, and I have been disappointed mostly.
In my opinion this business is OVER PRICED for the mediocre things they sell. Can you actually have the heart to pay $3.00 for a tiny danish that does not have any magic on it or whatsoever? If you do, then its your prerogative! I simply can’t waste money like that.
The cheesecakes are tough in consistency and has a lemon taste in all of the variety no matter what flavor it is you choose. It is not good at all for the $5.00 you spent for this mini cheesecakes.
The cakes I’ve tried are the Banana and the Red Velvet Cakes. The Banana cake has a weird after taste, interesting but not inviting enough for another slice. I love Amy’s Bakery’s (Hell’s Kitchen) Monkey Cake, it has the same idea but so decadent. Try both and you can tell me if I am lying. Red Velvet cake is soso compared to Martha’s tasty version that is dollar cheaper. Again compare it and give me a feedback
I must say though, that the Banana pudding is a heaven in cup and the sugar muffins are so tasty and unique in consistency. The only good things inside this bakery.
I am from Astoria. I live 2 blocks away from this bakery. I pass by it everyday and when it opened I was very happy to see a fresh vibrant store that signifies a little boom in the sufferring, of a once soaring, Steinway. You see businesses close 1 by 1 and it was great to see a fun looking store like this bakery open up amidst that.
Being a local, I love to support establishments such as this. Martha’s bakery at Ditmars Blvd, Fresh Donut that tiny coffee shop near the subway, Chocolate Spoon at 31st Avenue…just to name a few. And I must say, there are few of these businesses locally that serves quality, competitive products, that can compare to the ones we see and rave about in Manhattan. Unfortunately, CREAM BAKERY is not one of them.
i am surprised to say cream bakery has expanded a lot and is improving. much better tasting pastries. but the still need to work on some stuff like consistensy! there are times i will go back knowing what i want and what i want isint there! like the german chocolate cake and even cookies! i do recommend giving it a try. Much better than when they opened.
