Well, the weather today is crap (though I’m sure my tomato plants love it). I don’t know about you, but I got caught up in a farce of a commute – no N/Q service this morning! I took the bus to the F train and the F train took longer than the bus ride! It was quite the trip to work.
On days like this, I’m always looking for ways to go from gloom to glad – a nice glass of wine can do just that!
Over next door in LIC there’s a lovely little wine shop, Vine Wine, that does free tastings every Wednesday. This week they are showcasing Hungarian wines – I’ve had Hungarian wines in the past and really enjoyed them. In Vine Wine’s words, these wines “are really extraordinary summer sippers.” Sounds great!
Did you know that Hungary has been making wine since Roman times? That’s a long time ago, so, Hungary really has a strong tradition of winemaking. More about these specific wines:
We’ll be pouring a creamy, lemony white made from indigenous Hungarian grapes (Kreinbacher Somloi), a dry Tramini aka Gewurztraminer (Apatsagi Tramini) and a crisp Rose (Apatsagi Rose). Stop in, taste, and try to pronounce the names of these wines with us!
Tasting will be today from 5:30 – 8:30pm. Free!

Any ideas as to why service was cut on the N/Q today? The trains were all backed up by 8am – let two completely packed N/Q trains go by before deciding to walk to Qboro Plaza to get a 7, only to wait for ever. What a pain.
Here’s what the MTA site says:
I wouldn’t have known what was up if it hadn’t been for my boyfriend who left, then returned, and told me there was no service. As you can see, they were running the R train on the F line, so things were backed up there, too. I took the F because I heard grumblings that the 7 wasn’t running. Sounds like the 7 was just running slow? Sorry for your garbage commute – I feel your pain! Hope they can fix stuff before the evening commute.
Thanks for the post on Hungarian wines! Do you know if there will be any Hungarian-speakers at the tasting? If so I may stop by!
Thanks!
Esther
Hmm… not sure. If you speak Hungarian, though, you could help them with proper pronunciations!
So… did anyone go?
