Summertime is the best time to get fresh fruits and vegetables and there are plenty of great places to tap into that in Astoria. Here are some of our favorites to help you get your fruit and veggie fix this weekend.

1. United Bros Fruit - This 24-hour fruit and vegetable market is resourceful and really cost effective. Quality depends on what’s seasonal – sometimes you’ll get some not so great stuff, but for the most part, it’s AWESOME (especially when it comes to fresh herbs). 32-24 30th Avenue, Astoria. 718.728.7011
2. Greenline Organic – While prices tend to be more expensive, their selection is good and on top of the fruit and veggies, they also carry organic products such as yogurt, really amazing Amish butter, cheeses and such. 22-33 31st Street, Astoria. 718.777.1157
3. Astoria Farmer’s Market – You might’ve previously know this place as Top Tomato, the large fruit and vegetable stand near Taverna Kyclades on Ditmars Blvd. The name has changed last year, but the fruit and veggie selection is still solid and the prices are competitive. If you walk towards the back of the store, you’ll find yourself at the Breyer’s Ice Cream stand – it’s deelish! 33-15 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria. 718.626.9257
4. LIC Greenmarket – I like the option of this fresh, local fruit and veggie farmer’s market not only because of the good quality produce they supply but also because it’s open late on Wednesdays – from 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. You can go after work and get some goods before heading home to make dinner. 48th Avenue between Vernon Blvd and 5th Street.
5. Brooklyn Grange – The brand new rooftop farm in LIC does a Tuesday & Thursday farm stand in the lobby of their building where you can get fresh, locally grown vegetables. They’ll come at a premium no doubt, but they are very delicious. 37-18 Northern Blvd, LIC. 917.204.5644

I just wanted to mention that there is also an Astoria Greenmarket on Wednesdays from 8am – 3pm. It’s located on 14th Street at 31st Road and there were three farms there last week (previous week it was just Migliorelli).
It’s never crowded, which is a good thing, but I’m also worried it will go away if they don’t get enough business!
Thanks Emily – good point. I didn’t mention it because the times it’s open are so odd, but you are right, if we don’t talk about it, it will go away
