This weekend hails the second year of the Astoria Water Walk!

What is the Astoria Water Walk? It’s a celebration of fun on Shore Blvd along Astoria Park, in the role of a Temporary Pedestrian Street.  The street will be closed to car traffic, and open to pedestrians, bikes, and more people-scaled activity. Festivities go from 1-7pm for the next three Sundays, August 1st, August 8th and August 15th.

The Astoria Park Alliance, along with Green Shores NYC, the NYC Department of Transportation, Edible Queens, Astoria Music & Arts, Partnerships for Parks, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, BIG! NYC, the Rock Health & Fitness, GrowNYC are behind all of this.   Here’s more info:

Astoria Water Walk brings the DOT’s successful Summer Streets Program to the Western Queens Waterfront. Spontaneous relaxation, as well as fun & games on Shore Blvd is expected and encouraged. All activities are FREE.

Astoria Park is Western Queens’ largest park and features tennis courts, a running track, playgrounds, basketball courts, bucolic lawns and the City’s largest outdoor swimming pool. Its East River shoreline provides breathtaking views of the skyline and two bridges. It is heavily used by children, families, boaters, cyclists, runners, and motorists and is home to fish, crabs, birds, and aquatic plants.

Shore Boulevard will be closed to motorized vehicles during the Astoria Water Walk.
