Good CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) shares are hard to come by and many of the ones in Astoria and LIC have been completely closed out. While it’s truly amazing to see such interest in natural foods and the support of farming, it’s also sometimes disappointing for us who want a be a part of it but cannot. We’ll…there’s a new opportunity we’d like to tell you about, which will let you enter this sometimes exclusive (but wonderful) food club.
Vesta Vino and the new Brooklyn Grange Farm are joining forces to create a new CSA in Astoria.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Brooklyn Grange, it’s a new 1-acre rooftop farm in LIC, located at 37-18 Northern Blvd. They specialize in all sorts of seasonal produce that they distribute to the community, including to popular and respected restaurants such as Vesta.
The details about the CSA are located below. There’s only a short window to join, but you can still do it and get fresh, wonderful produce for the next 15 weeks.
Share Duration: July 17th – October
Pick-Up: Every Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Vesta Vino, 21-02 30th Avenue, Astoria. 718.545.5550
Deadline: Friday, July 16th
Contact: brooklyngrangefarm@gmail.com – Specify that you are signing up for the Brooklyn Grange CSA in Astoria
Payment: By cash or check only
The Share: You will get a 7-10 lb bag of vegetables, per week. The bag will consist of mixed vegetables, including seasonal goodies.
Cost: $280 for 15 weeks
Give this CSA a try. Personally, I’m doing it and splitting the cost with a family member, so for two 2 person households, it’ll work out to $9/week for fresh, local produce.

I’d normally be interested, but I still remember their disdain at having to “settle” for Queens, and won’t be joining.
