Happy Friday everyone – and what a hot one it is! Although the humidity isn’t as brutal as yesterday, it’s still a great day to cool off with something icy and refreshing such as gelato or ices. Here are some of our faves – and as always, chime in with yours!
Martha’s Country Bakery – Cool down with Martha’s creamy gelato, which comes in this festive glass if you choose to dine on the premises. I highly recommend the hazelnut flavor, which reminds me of my favorite snack, Nutella. 36-21 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria. 718.545.9737
Terrizzi Pasticceria – Besides their delicious homemade gelato, I also adore their ices cups, which you can get in three different sizes. Not only are they really flavorful and don’t taste watered down, they’re economical too, costing you less than $3 even for a large size. 35-14 30th Avenue, Astoria. 718.726.9698
Da Franco – Another great place to enjoy a cup of gelato, Da Franco’s is inventive when it comes to flavors. Choose between traditional stracciatella or pistachio, but if you want to be more adventurous, you can try the Amarena (milk flavor with cherries) or the Zuppa Inglese (cake flavor with sweet liqueor). 23-92 21st Street, Astoria. 718.267.0010
La Guli – Yowza, this place really knows their sweets, especially gelato and ices. Although their selection is limited, the flavors they do have are phenomenal, especially the rich chocolate with smooth caramel intertwined throughout. 29-15 Ditmars Blvd, Astoria. 718.728.5612
Manducatis Rustica -Mmmm…just look at this gelato sampler from Rustica. It’s not officially on the menu, but if you ask nicely they’ll make one special for you. Ours included 5 flavors such as strawberry, kiwi, bacio (kiss – made up of a chocolate/vanilla combo with an almond in the middle), coffee and apple. Delizioso!
