A couple of weeks back, I had the great fun of attending the Taste of LIC, an annual tasting event that’s organized by the Chocolate Factory Theater. Not only does this fabulous event keep getting bigger each year (a sure sign of our vital neighborhood) but it also features new and emerging restaurants that are either still green or not yet open. I’d like to highlight three of them here and encourage you to check them out when the time is right.

Madera Cuban Grill - I was so excited to see Cuban food respresented with samples of coconut shrimp, guava and cheese empanadas (Mmmm…divine), ropa vieja and other Cuban goodies. Madera is officially open and located on the popular Vernon Blvd, aka LIC’s Restaurant Row. 47-29 Vernon Blvd, LIC. 917.402.7019
Breadbox Cafe - This casual cafe is open for breakfast and lunch, but not yet for dinner. They’ll start rolling that out soon, and judging by the freshness of its food at the Taste of LIC, I would definitely check them out. The chicken and the egg salad mini bagels were just delicious and weren’t too heavy on the mayo, which I liked. It seems like they use good quality ingredients, which is always appreciated and noticed. 47-11 11th Street, LIC. 718.389.9700
M. Wells – Ohhh…this was certainly an interesting find, as I later found out that it’s a Quebeco-American diner. It officially opens on July 6th and boy do you have a treat in store! The food seems comforting and innovative, as I thoroughly enjoyed the slow roasted pork dressed with a sweet maple reduction that they showcased at the Taste of LIC. 21-17 49th Avenue, LIC. 718.425.6917
