Apart from a few thunderstorms, the weather this weekend should be pretty ok. I’m going to spend some time working in the garden, myself. If you find you need to be inside and want to check out some of the neighborhood’s cultural gems, consider upcoming performances by the Astoria Symphony, the family-friendly musical, Children of Eden at the Astoria Performing Arts Center (8pm; $18; 30-44 Crescent St), or the Arab music and dance ensemble, Zikrayat, at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (Friday, 8pm, $15/$20; 31-10 Thomson Ave, LIC).
Friday night from 6:30-9:30pm, Astoria Wine and Spirits (34-12 Broadway) is holding their regular wine tasting, but is also celebrating the opening of an exhibition by Jamie Wolcott, displayed in the store. Wines will be from Australia. You can also stop by on Sunday for a Mother’s Day wine tasting, 5-7pm. Those wines will be from South Africa, Spain, and Italy.
Speaking of Mother’s Day, Bistro Les Minots (47-16 30th Ave) will be preparing a special Mother’s Day brunch, prix fixe at $29.95, to be served all day from noon-10pm. Three courses will consist of appetizer, main, and dessert, plus a complimentary glass of sangria.
Stop by Candy Plum (30-98 36th Street) this Sunday from 1-4pm to check out new, handmade, unique designs by No Soap Radio. Shop, meet the designer, and sip on champagne!
Speaking of soap, I have plans to stop by The Little Soap Shop (22-07 36th Street) this weekend. This is my favorite place for lotions and soap in the neighborhood. Vivian does an amazing job with her products and they are truly top notch. I love the plain olive oil soap, and the body lotion is awesome as well. And she makes beautiful soy-based candles, which are non-toxic for your home. Fresh Laundry is my favorite scent. Stop by when you can, and let her know we sent you!
