Is it hot? Is it cold? The weather just can’t make up its mind. Well lucky for us, it’s looking like half the weekend might be nice.  And that means that it’ll be great to be up and about, enjoying the perks of our neighborhood. Perks such as…

TONIGHT
Enjoy Sunswick’s Karaoke Thursdays, which start at 10 p.m.  If you’d like, get there early and take advantage of their Happy Hour special from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. They have a nice selection of beer (25 taps) and really yummy, comforting grub. Plus it’s a great day to stroll around the ‘hood, so if you want, eat and drink up early, and then come back for some late-night singing.  35-02 35th Street, Astoria.  718.752.0620

SATURDAY
Oh yeah…we’re happy to report that the Water Taxi Beach in LIC is officially back and open for business. Come out on Saturday and shake your booty to beats mixed by DJ Victor Franco – all day from 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. Admission is FREE all day.  54-34 2nd Street, Long Island City.  877.974.6998 EXT 4

Or head over to the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden for an Astoria Arts & Music Fund Raiser with 12 hours of music, featuring 11 local bands including The Missing Teens, Bliminal, The Little Creatures, The Jamies, Thunderbang!, Freedomhead, Digamy, Illimanjaro, Bad Buka, Mainline Gypsy and Rattrap Bumpkin.  All proceeds go toward their big summer festival in Astoria Park.  Tickets to Saturday’s event will only set you back $10.  29-19 24th Avenue, Astoria.  718.728.9278

ANYTIME
Have a drink or two at “The Best Gastropub in New York,” Sweet Afton, which recently received this wonderful accolade from New York Magazine.  Their cocktails are amazing and we highly recommend the Spicy Cherry Margarita or the Sweet Tea.  And don’t forget to get an order of the fried pickles too – they’re truly unforgettable.  30-09 34th Street, Astoria. 718.777.2570

Who doesn’t love a great brunch and a fabulous cocktail to go with it (and a bottomless offering of it to boot!)  If this description sounds like it’s up your alley, you should definitely check out Ornella’s brunch offering which boasts a brunch entree, coffee and an unlimited supply of morning cocktails for just $13.  Oh and the food totally rocks! 29-17 23rd Avenue, Astoria.  718.777.9477
