Happy Friday fellow Astorians! Now that the weekend is here and since it looks like the weather might not hold up, we thought what better way to spend the night than to get some great take-out, watch a good movie and/or hang out with good friends. So for your tummy’s enjoyment, here are our top picks for favorite take-out joints in Astoria. As always, chime in with your two cents.
Seva - Not only is their delivery super organized through a wonderful online system that calculates delivery time, the portions are even larger than in the restaurant. For example, if you order the $13 prix-fixe, you not only get one but two of these delicious samosas pictured above. 30-07 34th Street, Astoria. 718.626.4440
Zenon Taverna - They really do things right with delivery. It comes on time, it’s hot, it’s fresh and so affordable. Above is an example of a delivery I recently got – Cypriot meatballs, pastichio, Cypriot fries, salad, and lets not forget the pita. 34-10 31st Avenue, Astoria. 718.956.0133
Pita Pan – Some Greek food purists would argue that this place is Americanized but I don’t care – it’s delicious and they make some killer souvlaki. I love to get the chicken souvlaki sticks or their gyros. The pizza is a nice alternative too if you want something more familiar. 37-15 30th Avenue, Astoria. 718.204.1633
Koliba - Even though you technically can’t get delivery here, you can get something really yummy and Eastern European to pick up. I strongly suggest the haluski (aka spaetzle) with sheep’s milk cheese and the most amazing bacon ever. The portion is gargantuan and can feed up to 3 or 4 people – I’m not kidding! 31-11 23rd Avenue, Astoria. 718.626.0430

Palace Fried Chicken – It’s true, this really is some greasy-spoon food but it’s just so damn enjoyable and especially on a Friday night when you want to let loose. I suggest getting the main show-stopper, the fried chicken with a yummy biscuit. My husband and his friends also enjoy the wings and the Italian cheeseburger. 27-01 21st Street, Astoria. 718.932.8855
